Winston-Salem Dash (14–10) vs. Hickory Crawdads (13–11)

Friday, May 6–7 p.m.

Truist Stadium (Winston-Salem, N.C.)

Game 24 Recap

The Salsa dropped their second straight game in their series with Hickory in Thursday night’s 7–4 loss. Winston-Salem starter Andrew Dalquist held it down on the mound for two innings before the Llamas put runs on the board. In the third, Hickory got on base in five straight at-bats, scoring four runs before adding a fifth on a sac fly. Shawn Goosenberg opened up the offense for the Salsa with a home run into left field in the bottom of the inning. Hickory would strike back in the top of the fourth with a single that scored the runner on second, bringing their lead back up to five. The Salsa retaliated in the bottom of the fifth with a run coming from a Duke Ellis single. Winston-Salem had a chance to score more with the bases loaded but Hickory nixed that by bringing in Triston Polley who got Luis Mieses to ground out to end the inning. All was quiet in the game until the bottom of the seventh when the Salsa inched closer to Hickory when a balk brought Terrell Tatum home and sent Ellis to second and Moises Castillo blooped a ball into shallow left and brought Ellis home, making the score 6–4. Spencer Mraz would come in and shut down the offense though, ending Winston-Salem’s comeback attempt. Mraz struck out the final five batters in addition to Hickory scoring another run on a sacrifice fly which would close out the game and give them the 2–1 lead three games into the series.
