Winston-Salem Dash (14–8) vs. Hickory Crawdads (11–11)

Wednesday, May 4 - 7 p.m.

Truist Stadium (Winston-Salem, N.C.)

Game 22 Recap

The Dash and Crawdads slugged it out on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem’s 11–9 win. The Dash got off to a quick start, getting out to a 6–0 lead by the end of the third inning in due part to Harvin Mendoza’s solo home run in the second inning and single in the third that drove in a run and starter Matthew Thompson’s stellar pitching. In the top of the fourth though, the Crawdads got to Thompson, scoring six runs and evening up the score. However, the Dash would answer right back as Luis Mieses drove in Duke Ellis from third on a groundout. The very next inning, Winston-Salem extended their lead by two more runs off of a two-run jack by Tyler Osik. Again though, the Crawdads wouldn’t be silenced and this time they got to Thompson’s replacement, Cooper Bradford. The Crawdads scored two runs on Bradford before Vince Vannelle came in and retired the side, but not before Hickory knotted up the score again. Osik broke the tie for the second time in the game with another two-run homer. Vannelle would hold it down for the seventh inning before Theo Denlinger came in for the eighth and Zach Cable in the ninth, silencing Hickory to get the win for the Dash.

FIRST PLACE DASH

With the 11–9 win last night against Hickory, the Dash are in first place in the South division of the South Atlantic League for the first time since Opening Day. Although tied with Bowling Green for sole possession of the top spot, the Dash made their way back up to the top as a result of an 8–2 run in the last 10 games.

GETTING ON BASE

Bryan Ramos, Duke Ellis, and Moises Castillo have all been seeing the ball well, getting their bats on the ball. The trio of players are at the top of the South Atlantic League leaderboards in batting average. All three players are in the top 10 of on-base percentage as well, with Castillo leading the league in the category.

MENDOZA MASHING

Harvin Mendoza has been crushing the ball, hitting 3 home runs in the past five games as well as 7 RBIs, including hitting a home run and driving in two runs in last night’s game. Mendoza leads the Dash in both categories in the five-game span.

SOLESKY STARTS

Chase Solesky will start the game for the Dash for what will be his second outing against Hickory. The right-hander out of Florida is coming off of his first win of the season against Asheville. Solesky had the longest outing for a Dash starter this season, going 6 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five.

CURBELO COMES BACK

After coming to the Dash from Birmingham, Luis Curbelo will make his return to Truist Stadium in the Hickory series. Curbelo played 109 games for Winston-Salem last year, leading the Dash in home runs and runs batted in with 22 HRs and 66 RBIs.

First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
