2013 Home Opener Through Tweets
The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, but can a series of tweets of 140 characters also tell a story? We think so! We used fan’s tweets to retell the story of how the Dash lost their home opener against the Carolina Mudcats 9-7 in front of 6,963 spectators.

Very Thankful Weekend
Happy Monday! Here’s hoping your Thanksgiving weekend was filled with family, food and fun.
Two Dash All-Stars are very thankful for this weekend, thanks to Notre Dame. Outfielders Michael Earley and Brady Shoemaker are big Fighting Irish fans, and Notre Dame clinched a spot in the BCS National Championship Game Saturday night with a 22-13 win over USC.
The Irish have not played for a national title since the 1989 Fiesta Bowl, when Shoemaker was one year old and Earley was nine months old. They were understandably excited Saturday night:
Have waited every Saturday during college football my whole life for ND to be in this situation! #biggestfan
— brady shoemaker (@this_is_BS21) November 25, 2012
Have some! ND, booking hotel now! #miami
— Michael Earley (@MoneyMikeEarley) November 25, 2012
The Irish will likely be underdogs when they play either Alabama or Georgia in the title game January 7, but both Earley and Shoemaker will be believers. Notre Dame is one of the marquee programs in college football, so it is great to see the Irish return to the national title game.
In another Dash-football connection, 2012 Dash trainer Cory Barton attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his Crimson Hawks will square off with Winston-Salem State in the quarterfinals of the Division II football playoffs. IUP held on for a dramatic 17-14 win over New Haven this weekend, while WSSU rolled Shippensburg 37-14 to advance to this week’s “Barton Bowl.”
Did your football team win this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
Go Browns.

Time For A “Best Of”
First off, my apologies for the lack of writing over the weekend. With a trip to Myrtle Beach combined with a Sunday off day along with my better half being in town, I did not get around to a post over the last two days.
To make up for it, I will once again share with you some of our most popular posts over the last month. Thanks, as always, for reading and supporting the Dash and this blog.
Secondly, we will be using some of our features from past PlayBall! programs here on the blog. If you missed them in the magazine, you’ll have a chance to check them out here.
Finally, since this week’s trip to Zebulon marks our first “last trip” of the year to a stadium, I’ll have a new ballpark feature starting with Carolina’s Five County Stadium sometime this week.
Without further ado, here are some of our most popular posts lately:
July 12: The quirkiest stat of the year, easily (“Left Never Felt So Right“)
July 9: The best game of the year, arguably (“More On Sunday’s Stunning Slugfest“)
July 7: The craziest trip of the summer, undoubtedly (“120 Minor League Stadiums – One Summer“)
July 3: A chat with the fastest man in minor league baseball (“Run, Billy, Run“)
June 24: Predicting home runs became a bit easier last month (“Predicting Trayce Thompson’s Home Runs“)
June 23: Lunch with a Hall of Famer? Sure… (“Eating Lunch With Rollie Fingers“)
June 20: My favorite recent piece–Winston-Salem’s All-Star tale (“You Tell The All-Star Game Story“)
June 16: You know the Dash clinched the first-half division title. Here’s how they did it. (“How The Dash Got Here“)

Do You Want Free All-Star Game Tickets?
The California/Carolina League All-Star Game is 42 days away, and preparations are continuing within the Dash’s front office. We want to make sure you feel ready for the event, too.
Individual tickets have yet to go on sale for the All-Star Game, but we wanted to give our fans a chance to win their way to the first Midsummer Classic at BB&T Ballpark.
Here’s how to win: simply tweet why you love the Dash, and put our handle (@WSDashBaseball) at the END of the tweet. You only get one tweet, and you have to tweet to us by this Friday at 6 p.m.
We will choose our favorite tweet, and that person will win two tickets to the All-Star Game, along with a Dash prize pack. The winner will be announced early next week.
So, you have 124 characters to tell us why you love the Dash. That love could lead to your spot inside BB&T Ballpark for the All-Star Game. Good luck!

Dash Players on Twitter
EDIT: Thanks to reader and tweeter John for pointing out that I forgot one. Dash infielder Dan Wagner is available at @danwag06. So we are up to 10 Dash players on Twitter.
______________
The Dash have played really well over the last seven days. They have won a season-high seven in a row. So, Dash players deserve a reward, right?
Here is your chance to help. The Dash are all over the Twitter world. Here are the ones I could find:
Chris Bassitt (@C_Bass419): He may be the most active Dash player on Twitter. From tweets about the Dash, minor league travel and his favorite sports team, Chris is a Twitter machine.
Kyle Bellamy (@KyleBellamy_U): His picture is worth the click and follow alone. Check it out.
Nick Ciolli (@nciolli20): Nick is a big fan of the <<< or >>> fad.
Michael Earley (@MoneyMikeEarley): If you want to see what the Dash are playing for this season, check out Mike’s twitter picture.
Stephen McCray (@mccrazy44): The newest member of the Dash roster may have the best handle on the club.
Nick McCully (@NMcCully): He’s been in nine states over the last two and a half years. If anything, he probably has good packing advice.
Jake Oester (@oester16): The guy likes fishing. His picture proves it.
Jake Petricka (@jacobpetricka): He doesn’t tweet much, but they are almost always baseball-related posts. That’s enough for me.
Brady Shoemaker (@whitesox4321): Brady has never tweeted before, and he doesn’t follow anyone. Still, he has 15 followers. That’s making something out of nothing.
Let me know if I missed anyone, and be sure to give these guys a follow. By the way, the Dash’s Twitter account is approaching 3,000 followers. Be sure to give us a follow. We will do another fun Twitter post later this week! Talk to you tonight at 6:50 on wsdash.com for the Dash and the P-Nats.
