Jarrett Casey headed to Birmingham
For the first time in two-and-a-half weeks, a roster move tweaks the Dash’s roster, and it is great news for left-handed reliever Jarrett Casey. The Indianapolis native is heading up to Double-A Birmingham for the first time in his career.
The former 32nd-round pick had been bounced back and forth between the starting rotation and the bullpen during his first three minor league seasons before settling into Winston-Salem’s bullpen here in 2013.
The southpaw has pitched well all season, owning a 2-3 record and an ERA of 2.91 across 30 relief appearances. Carolina League hitters have hit just .184 against him, while lefties mustered just a mark of .146. Casey has shined since the All-Star break, posting a 1.31 in 10 second-half efforts.
The move leaves the Dash with one left-handed pitcher on the roster, Max Peterson, who tossed a scoreless eighth frame in last night’s 8-3 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Winston’s roster also sits at 24 players, which is one shy of the league maximum.
Winston-Salem goes for a sweep of the Blue Rocks tonight at BB&T Ballpark. Check back later today for a preview of tonight’s series finale.
