Keenyn Walker Joins Winston-Salem

The Dash received great news today with the promotion of highly-touted outfield prospect Keenyn Walker from Low-A Kannapolis to Winston-Salem.

Walker, who is en route to Zebulon as I type but is not in Wednesday afternoon’s starting lineup, was hitting .282 with one home run and 39 RBI over 74 games with the Intimidators. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native has also stolen 39 bases, which is tied for fifth in all of minor league baseball.

After being selected as a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds of the 2011 MLB Draft (47th overall), Walker hit .257 with 24 RBI and 21 stolen bases between rookie-level Great Falls and Low-A Kannapolis a year ago. Walker entered the season as the number six prospect in the White Sox minor league system according to Baseball America.

The White Sox announced two other moves this morning. Michael Johnson, who was 2-for-18 in nine games with Winston-Salem, is heading to Great Falls to get some more playing time. Also, Kyle Shelton was placed on the seven-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

The Dash and Mudcats square off at noon. Listen live beginning at 11:45 a.m. here. Talk to you then.

I really like your blog. I was wondering if you could check mine out. Come and see an 11 year old’s view on all things baseball. Please feel free to offer any advice.
